About Us (Me, Anxiety Attacks and Effexor)

My name is Alexandra and I have been suffering from generalized anxiety disorder for about 15 years now. Although I can always remember being a little more “cautious” than my friends, I had never experienced full blown anxiety until I was 12 years old.

To make a very long story short, my anxiety attacks began interfering with my life when I was a senior in high school. After having an incident at school where I passed out and fell down a flight of stairs I went to see a neurologist and psychiatrist. I was quickly put on Effexor XR 75 mg at the age of 18 and have been on it ever since.

Effexor did help with my anxiety attacks. They were subdued almost immediately with minimal side effects (at first) but it quickly became apparent that Effexor had numbed ALL of my emotions. I realized this when I was unable to cry or ‘feel’ at all when my grandfather passed away.

I have quit Effexor XR cold turkey twice and I LOST. Effexor won both of those battles by leaving be completely incapacitated and desperate. NEVER QUIT EFFEXOR COLD TURKEY. NEVER- Trust me.

Now at the age of 27, with the help of my primary care physician I am weaning off of Effexor. Here’s how you can do it too. Follow me on this path to freedom from this poison and my anxiety.
